Welcome back, everyone!

I’m excited to share some great news about our community. For those who follow my blog, you’ll know that Hawthorne has many unique communities, including Del Aire and Wiseburn. These areas are unincorporated parts of Los Angeles and are served by the fantastic Wiseburn School District.

It’s been a long time coming, but our city, county, and local school districts like the Centinela Valley Union High School District are making some serious upgrades to our sports facilities! As a proud alumnus of Hawthorne High, I have some personal memories of the old fields. I ran track & field on a dirt track back in the day and have some great memories of competing in races like the 1600-meter event and the challenging 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter races, sometimes even throwing in the 4×400-meter relay!

Sports have always been a big part of my life. From playing in the now-defunct Aviation Little League to swimming with the City of Lennox team in the summer, I’ve always loved being active. So, it’s really awesome to see that funding is being allocated to improve our local sports fields.

Here are some details on the projects I’m most excited about:

Hawthorne High School Fields

The Centinela Valley Union High School District is replacing the existing outdoor athletic facilities with new and improved ones. This includes a new combined football/soccer field with synthetic turf and a brand-new synthetic track (no more dirt!). The baseball and softball fields will also get new synthetic turf, and the entire complex will feature new LED lighting and bleachers.

Del Aire Park Baseball Fields

While information about specific baseball field upgrades is a little more limited, the county’s park and recreation department has been actively refurbishing Del Aire Park. The park has received several upgrades over the past few years, including a new children’s play area. With the new focus on athletic facilities, it’s great to see continued investment in our local parks.

Wiseburn Sports Complex

This state-of-the-art facility, located next to Wiseburn Middle School on Aviation and 135th Street, is a significant investment for the community. The project will include new multi-purpose fields with synthetic turf for high school softball, Little League baseball, and youth soccer. It will also feature new parking, restroom facilities, a warming kitchen, concession areas, and upgraded scoreboards and lighting.

Final Thoughts

Now, our kids and local athletes will train, compete, and create memories on top-tier turf fieldsmodern tracks, and upgraded stadium-style spaces instead of patched-up grass and outdated facilities.

I can’t wait to see the next generation of athletes hone their skills on these new and improved fields. Who knows, maybe a future pro will get their start right here in Hawthorne!

As your local real estate broker and neighbor, I love that these upgrades don’t just enhance property value, they enrich lives, build community pride, and give families even more reasons to love our neighborhoods.
